At Bailie's, our
Recreational Classes focus on preparing gymnasts not only for
more advanced Gymnastics skills, but also for skills needed for
any other sport or physical activity. Participating in Gymnastics
helps children with strength, flexibility, balance, coordination,
body awareness, and many other skills that are necessary in other
sports as well. Our classes also help kids develop such important
life skills as goal setting, perseverance, and a positive attitude
toward learning new things. These benefits extend far beyond
the walls of the gym. Many of our former students have gone on
to excel in Swimming, Diving, Track and Field, Cycling, Dance,
and even Aerial Skiing! By having a solid foundation of basic
skills, they achieved success in many other areas as well as
gymnastics.
Recreational Classes are for Girls ages 5-12. Classes
are grouped by ages 5-6, 7-9, and 10-12. (For our teenage students,
we offer Tumbling classes, please refer to the Tramp
and Tumbling Section.) Within each age group, classes
are also divided by skill level.
Using the Fun & Fit
Curriculum,
Gymnasts work at their own pace through the skills on Vault,
Bars, Balance Beam, and Tumbling. Teachers set up stations for
the gymnasts to work on during each class. Rotating through each
station maximizes the number of turns each gymnast receives on
each event.
With each gymnast working at her own pace, the
environment stays positive as the gymnasts learn and progess.
Teachers focus on helping each student achieve her own Personal
Best, which increases Self-Esteem.
Students who pass off skills quickly move along to the next skill
level, while students who need more time and practice on certain
skills or events are free to progress at a pace comfortable for
them.
Twice per year, we offer a fun and exciting Gymnastics
Festival for our Recreational students! This is a great chance
for them to learn routines in class and come to the gym to show
them off to friends and family! (There is a nominal fee to participate
in the Festival).
